Can you repair broken Juzu?
It depends.
- If you purchased Juzu from Lotus Lion Design and they are in need of repair, please Contact Us so that we can discuss the nature of the repair.
- If the Juzu in need of repair is NOT from Lotus Lion Design, please understand that Juzu repair is definitely a case-by-case situation. Not all Juzu are made the same and not all materials are suitable for use in Juzu (if your Juzu is made of materials which are known to cut the stringing material there is no point in repairing them). Beads sizes and the size of the drill holes in beads can vary greatly as well, preventing us from being able to repair them. Also, Juzu "repair" most often is not a repair at all, but actually a taking apart and completely remaking brand new Juzu with the original materials provided, which is just as labor-intensive as a brand new set of Juzu, if not more. It is for these reasons that we usually do not offer repair for Juzu that we did not personally make at Lotus Lion Design. We have made exceptions and try to offer repairs to non Lotus Lion Design Juzu when we can, but there are no guarantees. Please Contact Us to see if repair is an option for you and be prepared to provide photos upon request.
- We are happy to offer one complimentary repair if your Juzu breaks within one year of purchase and you follow the care techniques outlined in our Juzu care Guide. However, if your broken Juzu shows signs of breaking due to rubbing of beads during Daimoku, we will not be able to honor the complimentary Juzu repair.
- We offer standard Juzu Repair for $25
Are you saying NOT to rub Juzu?
Short answer: YES.
Long answer: Regarding the rubbing of beads, we understand that this is a subject of much debate depending on traditions in the country which you practice or who introduced you to the practice and their habits... But the bottom line is that "Buddhism is reason" and the Laws of Physics and the Science of Friction will tell you that rubbing things together will wear them down and eventually break them, regardless of the material. Even something as small as a grain of sand or a drop of water will eventually wear down a boulder after repeated friction.
We have a Juzu Care Guide on our website which does specifically say not to rub your beads together - on our main Juzu Page as well as each Juzu product listing there is a link to the Juzu Care Guide (https://www.lotusliondesign.com/juzucareguide.html) which starts off by saying "Our Juzu are designed to last, but it is up to you to treat them like you want them to last!"
The person who introduced me to the Practice and taught me Gongyo is an 85 year old Japanese man who has been practicing for nearly 50 years. He told me not to rub my beads together because (in his words) "This is not a Juzu bead rubbing competition and daimoku shouldn't sound like a swarm of bees" lol. So I don't rub my beads together. Never have.
So, your Juzu are YOUR Juzu so you may do with them what you wish, but please know that rubbing is the #1 culprit for broken Juzu and the more you rub your beads together, the more likely they are to break.

Also, please make sure to double check the size measurements of the Juzu you are considering BEFORE placing your order.
It is highly recommended that you measure your current Nichiren Juzu so that you can choose a size which is most similar. If you do not currently have Nichiren Juzu, you should measure a friends Juzu for reference, or you can cut a string or thin rope and tie it in a loop to the measured Juzu circumference from our website. Then hold the string/rope between your hands as though you were holding Juzu to see which length you prefer.
Lastly, we do NOT accept returns or exchanges for Sale Items or Custom Orders.

Do you have a physical store?
We currently only have our online store and all items are sold directly through our website www.lotusliondesign.com
How did you start Lotus Lion Design?
Lotus Lion Design actually began because I was searching for Gemstone Nichiren Juzu for my own personal use and could not find any. I quickly realized that they are quite difficult to find, and are most certainly not sold in stores, so I decided to make my own. I studied the meaning of Juzu, learned how to make Juzu in authentic Nichiren Buddhist style and made my first set of Juzu. When I started using my Juzu, people quickly noticed and began to inquire about them, asking me where I bought them and if I could make Juzu for sale. That is when I began to realize that I could serve our Nichiren Buddhist Community as an artist and Lotus Lion Design was born.
I also wanted to design my Altar in a style that was fresh and unique, matching my personal style and home decor. Ultimately, I created my practice in a style that I loved, developing a deeper connection to my daily Daimoku Gongyo which led to a stronger faith in my Practice and appreciation for my Gohonzon. I feel that this is an important aspect of Practicing Nichiren Buddhism and I only hope that we can help fellow members around the world to develop a deeper connection themselves.
